Mario Botta “Quinta” Chair for Alias, 1985 – Postmodern Design Icon
Architecture you can sit on: designed in 1985 by Swiss architect Mario Botta for Alias, the “Quinta” chair (model 605) is a defining piece of 1980s postmodern furniture design.
The frame is made of black lacquered tubular steel, bent into a bold arc that unites armrest and front leg in one continuous curve. The seat and backrest are crafted from folded, perforated sheet steel — a signature Botta detail that gives the chair its characteristic transparency and subtle flex.
No longer in production. A sister piece is held in the collection of MoMA, New York.
