Otto Zapf – Column Table (Early Original Model, ca. 1967–1969)
Up for sale is a rare early original of the iconic “Column Table” designed by Otto Zapf.
This example can be clearly identified as part of the first production series from around 1967–1969, based on several characteristic construction features that differ noticeably from the later 1970s industrial versions.
Authentic Features of the Early Model
• Soft, organically rounded tabletop edge
• Hand-laminated fiberglass (GFRP) with a slightly matte/semi-gloss gelcoat surface
• Original dual-thread adapter bolt (different thread types on each side)
• Metal plate at the column top — a signature detail of the early small-batch production
• Off-white/cream color typical of 1960s polyester fiberglass
• Slightly more substantial column shape compared to later series
These early versions were produced in very limited numbers and are now highly desirable among collectors and design institutions.
Condition:
Very good original condition with minimal, age-appropriate patina to the gelcoat.
No cracks, no structural damage, and the threaded connection is completely stable.
All components are original.
Dimensions:
• Diameter: approx. 125–126 cm (≈ 49–49.6 inches)
• Height: approx. 72 cm (≈ 28.3 inches)
• Material: Fiberglass / polyester GFRP
• Color: Off-white (cream)
Location:
Dusseldorf, Germany
